Best time to surf in the UK is when it's warmest ;-)
Seriously though - summer is good or (Autumn to Spring) - June to November are the go with mild air and water tempreatures that won't cause the ice cream headaches. Youcan get consistent surf in the 4 - 10 foot range but remember that there is a huge shifts in tides so you have to p[ay attention to the tide charts (some places change by 15 ft in depth)
The surfing season in the United Kingdom runs from , providing consistent surf of 4 to 12ft at times. Britain’s long continental shelf drains some power from the swell but it still packs a punch to be reckoned with. Huge tides means that the sea can rise and fall up to 15ft at times making spots always changeable, always challenging and always exciting. Summer on the whole is much smaller with swells averaging between 1 to 4ft.
There is a whole range of surf destinations and different waves in England and the swell does actually hit the entire coastline - so in theory you can travel the whole country and surf, it can just get so damn cold.
The best place to look for consisten surf includes Watergate Bay Cornwall, Newquay, Saltburn, Cleveland, north-east England. In saltburn Good beginner waves can be found either side of the pier.
